About us

Phuntsok Chö Ling was founded by the Tibetan Buddhist teacher Lama Jigmé Namgyal. All his activities and earnings are dedicated to the memory of his teacher Khenpo Jigmé Phuntsok Rinpoche. The name Phuntsok Chö Ling was donated to the centre by Kyabjé Trulshik Rinpoche, teacher of the 14th Dalai Lama, who died in 2011.

Tibetan Buddhism has a unique vision on the well-being and happiness of people. Under the leadership of Lama Jigmé, we want to bridge the gap between an ancient culture of peace, wisdom and compassion and the Western way of life. Lama Jigmé connects his in-depth knowledge to our reality and views, thereby making Tibetan wisdom accessible to everyone regardless of religion, age or background.

Our location

Since August 27, 2016 we are located in our new centre at Oostkousdijk 17b, on Coolhaveneiland in Delfshaven, Rotterdam. The new centre, with an authentic temple space and spacious foyer (designed by COFO Architects), offers many opportunities for meditation and study classes, workshops and lectures, city retreats, debates and events. Developing new activities in which cooperation with local parties and initiatives plays an important role is also possible. We will eventually have the facilities to receive local residents for a cup of coffee and meet. We also want to become a place where the neighbourhood can talk to each other. Listening to each other, meeting each other and connecting play an important role in Buddhism, and in particular in the vision of Lama Jigmé on this matter.

Wellbeing of others

Phuntsok Chö Ling is committed to the welfare of others. We try to contribute to creating a peaceful society. It starts with the students: through meditation, study and following teachings they develop personal skills and are able to create harmony, balance and inner satisfaction for themselves. In the hope that this will also create peace for their environment.

Core values of our centre are: harmony, equanimity, openness and connection. These core values are not only good intentions, but are actually and decisively put into practice, in words and action.
