The four thoughts that turn the mind 6/8

Studiemorning with Lama Jigme - Subject: Death and Impermanence

During this first study morning, Lama Jigme Namgyal will discuss the third thought: Karma as cause and effect.

These ordinary preliminary practices are to a great degree concerned with recognizing and identifying the truth of suffering and the truth of the source of suffering. These contemplations help us direct our mind away from activities that lead to suffering and toward activities that help us become free from suffering. The Four Thoughts, or the Four Contemplations, that turn the mind from samsara are: (1) the precious human rebirth; (2) death and impermanence; (3) karma as cause and effect; and (4) the defects of samsara.

The study morning is open to everyone, members and non-members of Phuntsok Chö Ling, regardless of background or religion. These lectures on “The four thoughts that turn the mind” are best taken as a series, but are also very valuable and practical as stand-alone lectures.
